Transforming the Shopping Experience
Million-dollar renovation in the main shopping centers of Puerto Rico
San Juan/Ponce, Puerto Rico – Plaza Las Américas and Plaza Del Caribe recently announced new stores, improvements to their facilities and new marketing programs that will be implemented or started this year for the benefit of their visitors.
“Plaza Las Américas and Plaza del Caribe will debut seven new restaurants this summer in addition to beginning a capital improvement plan that reaches $12.2 million to renovate these leading properties in Puerto Rico,” mentioned Edwin Tavárez, General Manager of both shopping centers.
Plaza Las Americas (PLA)
Last year, Plaza Las Américas (PLA) had an increase in its commercial offering with the incorporation of 25,000 square feet of new businesses, among which Offline by Aerie, which relocated and expanded, Garota, Valentino Valentin and Goboricua stand out.
Enio Navarro, director of Leasing of the shopping centers, highlighted that “among the new restaurants in Plaza Las Américas are the opening of Longhorn Steakhouse and Tigella Italian Grill, along with the incorporation of other brands such as Pa’l Pita and Panchitos, in a “strategy to enrich the gastronomic offer of the shopping center.”
In terms of remodels, stores such as Bath & Body Works, La Favorita and La Patisserie have undergone renovations, with the latter also undergoing a relocation. In addition, Reinhold, Chili’s and Banco Popular are just some of the establishments currently undergoing renovation in the same shopping center.
In addition, Tavárez highlighted that remodeling work and improvement projects are being carried out to keep the property in optimal condition. As part of these improvements, Plaza Las Américas will have new sanitary services facilities on the second level, near the Central Atrium in front of the Triple-S location. This includes men’s and women’s bathrooms and a family bathroom with an adult changing table, which complements those existing in La Terraza and in the southern area of the shopping center. Additionally, renovations will be carried out, including updates to the roof structures, air conditioning systems and exterior painting throughout the building, as part of an estimated investment aimed at keeping the property in optimal condition.
Plaza Del Caribe (PDC)
For its part, in Plaza Del Caribe (PDC), 58,500 square feet of commercial space were added last year, with the inclusion of a Starbucks Kiosk, IRS Call Center and a service office of said agency, Windsor, Ztilos and Roma. In addition, restaurants such as Tijuana, Lunch Box and Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are expected to open soon. Likewise, improvement projects will be carried out, such as the construction of new sanitary services and the paving of parking areas, all aimed at improving the customer experience.
Loyalty Program and PLAZA+
Both shopping centers continue to improve their loyalty programs, with the recent launch of PLAZA Check-In, which rewards customer loyalty and visits. “Since 2021, in both shopping centers we have implemented loyalty strategies and last year we launched the PLAZA Check-In program. This allows customers to accumulate points every time they check-in in the digital directories of the shopping centers. The more visits they make, the more opportunities they will have to win monthly prizes,” said Iris Ayala, marketing director of Plaza Las Américas. In addition, customers can benefit from other interactions such as the use of the PLAZA App, PLAZA+ and access to PLAZA Wifi, allowing them to obtain additional benefits.
For her part, Susana Santiago, Marketing Director of Plaza del Caribe, explained that PLAZA+ continues to expand with more stores and functionalities, offering customers an improved digital experience. With 65 stores in Plaza Las Américas and 33 in Plaza Del Caribe, the platform also allows users to create “Wish Lists” to share with family and friends. In 2023, more than 315,000 people visited PLAZA+, and since last year, visitors can access the platform from the new digital directories in both shopping centers.
