Mano Amiga Program benefits 22 non-profit entities

Aid amounts to $226,000 in donations

San Juan, Puerto Rico, June 28, 2023– The Mano Amiga Program of the Plaza Las Américas and Plaza Del Caribe Foundations celebrated the fourteenth edition of delivering donations to 22 entities in the metro and southern areas of the Island. The social investment in this edition amounts to $226,000, impacting the lives of over 11,900 people.

“We continue to support organizations that consistently and responsibly promote Puerto Ricans’ well-being and produce tangible results. We are extremely proud to be able to help them continue to work on what they do every day, providing hope and opportunity to those who need it most. In this edition, we once again supported projects in art and culture, entrepreneurship, environment, education, and health,” said Jaime Fonalledas Rubert, president of the Plaza Las Américas and Plaza Del Caribe Foundations.

The Plaza Del Caribe Foundation presented donations to 7 organizations that will directly impact close to 1,000 people. The recipients in this edition were:

  • The Guayanilla SUM School Band, to buy new musical instruments for the training band.
  • Puerto Rico Council of Boy Scouts of America, for scoutreach at the service of economically disadvantaged scouts.
  • Para La Naturaleza, for the summer 2023 immersion workshop in nature.
  • Centro San Francisco, to purchase classroom equipment with the Tecnología Aliada Educativa program.
  • Centro de Desarrollo y Servicios Especializados (CENTRO ESPIBI), for its independent living program.
  • Proyecto Amor que Sana, to continue providing prevention services to homeless people.
  • Special Institute for the Development of the Individual, the Family, and the Community, with its Esperanza program, which assists and supports the mental health of communities.

On the other hand, the Plaza Las Américas Foundation granted donations to 15 organizations, impacting over 11,000 people. The organizations recognized were:

  • Banco de Alimentos de PR, with its HEROES program, to support the nutrition of child cancer patients and survivors.
  • Caras of the Americas (DBA Caras con Causa), with the Raíces Urbanas-Viveros Antillanos project.
  • American Red Cross, PR Chapter, with its financial assistance program for home fires.
  • San Juan Bay Estuary Program for the environmental education signage of the Condado Lagoon.
  • Sociedad Pro-Hospital del Niño, for rehabilitating boys’ and girls’ wardrobes, storage for recreation and therapies, and the nursing area.
  • Instituto Psicopedagógico de PR, for the most independent life program.
  • Fundación de Niños de PR, for the hospital education school program.
  • Safe Child Coalition, with the Child Protection Coalition program to educate about Online Safety.
  • Asamblea Familiar Virgilio Dávila, with the Education and Technology Accessibility program, for purchasing technological equipment.
  • Asesores Financieros Comunitarios, with the program Promoting economic development from non-profit organizations.
  • Hogar de Niñas de Cupey, for the Complementary Educational Program for Comprehensive Education.
  • Multisensory Reading Center of PR, for certifying teachers in reading instruction in Spanish using the Orton-Gillingham methodology.
  • Liga de Arte de San Juan, with its program Art that moves us, to reach day and long-term care centers for the elderly.
  • Colegio San Gabriel, for its STEM Robotics program.
  • Society of Education and Rehabilitation of PR (SER), to support the Choir of the entity.

Since its creation in 2016, the Mano Amiga Program has contributed over $2.9 million in 250 donations, which have benefited 124 organizations and impacted 327,000 people in Puerto Rico. The Mano Amiga Program receives requests for donations from organizations that meet the requirements twice a year, which are evaluated by a panel, and the recipients are later announced. The next period in which entities may submit their proposals for program consideration will be in August 2023.
